Cisco Responds to Clock Component Issue in Hardware

March 14, 2017

At Mindsight, we believe in transparency and candid communication. If there is a problem or situation, the best course of action is to be open, honest, and proactive. Recently, Cisco has taken the same stance with a hardware issue affecting a portion of their customer base. This demonstrates the level of integrity the Cisco team has—confronting the problem head on, even though many other manufacturers have encountered the same issue.

Clock Component Issue

In select Cisco networking hardware, there is a critical malfunction in a clock component that causes the hardware to fail after 18 – 36 months of use. Once the flaw was discovered, Cisco quickly announced the findings and sent out communications to their customers. Mindsight followed suit and also contacted our clients to make them aware of the component issue.

Here is a list of products affected by the component issue: (last updated 4/28/2017)

The Cisco Response

We’d like to stress again that multiple manufacturers are experiencing this problem, and it is in no way unique to Cisco products. That being said, Cisco is taking the right steps to remediate the problem. In response to the clock component issue, Cisco will be working with their customers to replace the affected hardware as soon as possible.

Because the malfunction only occurs after 18 months after assembly, at the earliest, Cisco has said that they will be prioritizing replacement based on the age of the equipment. Those with the oldest affected hardware will be assisted first so as to limit the amount of impact the problem has on the customer base as a whole.
