Summer is almost here, and that means vacation season is upon us. Soon people will be packing their bags for road trips, cruises, and flights around the country and the world. Before you begin your trip, there are a number of travel tech that can make your trip more enjoyable. From power converters to personal routers, we’ve gathered some of the top travel gadgets to make this year’s vacation one to remember.
Summer Travel Tech
Most American hotels offer WiFi, but it is not a guaranteed amenity. If your hotel only offers a wired connection or you want to have a personal and secure wireless connection, the multi-purpose travel router is a must have. It includes USB ports to charge your devices, and you can even plug an external hard drive into the device and stream content off of it.
External batteries have become commonplace with the widespread use of smartphones and other electronic devices, and in your everyday life, a small battery may perfectly suit your needs. When traveling, however, a slightly larger batter is warranted. This Anker battery is very light, measures only 6.5” x 2.3”, and can charge a modern smartphone up to seven times.
Power converters are a staple of international travel and have been around for some time. Different countries often have different electrical outlets, so if you intend to bring personal electronics, hair dryers, or anything that plugs into a wall, a power converter is a must. They are available as power strips as well as adapters.
Not a selfie-stick, but many travelers like to bring those as well. The Roku Streaming Stick allows you to cast your YouTube videos onto a television screen for better viewing. This is particularly valuable when staying in hotels in other countries where local television may not be in your language. You can still lounge and watch your favorite videos.
Many travelers have had to deal with lost luggage at one point or another. Sometimes your luggage ends up at the wrong airport, sometimes it gets lost entirely. The Trakdot Luggage Tracker is a small device that hopes to solve this issue. It contains a tracking chip inside of it that can be located using a GPS app. Furthermore, when your luggage comes within 30ft of you, it will send an alert to your phone. This will help you spot your luggage on the baggage carousel.
The one drawback of the device is that it requires a subscription fee in order for it to work. If you travel in-frequently, it means an extra little expense for your trip, and if you’re a constant traveler, a lifetime subscription model is available.
New Travel Tech to Match the Times
In the past, travel technology meant a camera and a camcorder, but these (and many other) common devices are now housed in our smartphones. Because of this shift, many of the travel gadgets of today serve to extend the reach of your smartphone or keep it running longer. Keep your phone charged and ready for pictures and videos on your next vacation. Happy travels.
