Breaking down Mindsight’s IT Consulting Methodology

If you were to ask Mindsight to sum up our consulting methodology in one or two sentences, we’d be hard-pressed to do so. There are circumstances impacting every client environment that can wildly impact the ways in which our solutions architects must approach the situation. From legacy equipment and facility restrictions to personnel limitations and office politics, no two jobs are the same.

At its most general, however, there is one salient theme.

At Mindsight, we aim to deliver solutions instead of products. Our solutions architects take a holistic view of our client’s environment and craft the optimum approach, accounting for the unique variables in play, to achieve the desired result.

That’s a dense statement. To better illustrate what we mean, we have to unpack it a little.

We are happy to perform equipment upgrades and like-for-like swaps as the network and data hardware reaches its end of life (EoL). Yet, that strategy may not solve the underlying problems in the environment. Too much attention is centered on the “means” instead of the “goal,” and we would rather focus on the latter.

If our conversations instead began with, “I’d like to increase the performance of this application by 50%,” we could devise different strategies to achieve or exceed that goal and determine which one is the most valid. It may turn out that a legacy equipment upgrade is indeed the best way to increase the application performance, but by following a “goals first” approach, we are better able to weigh other options and confirm our solution.

No department in a company operates in isolation. Marketing supports sales. Sales books the projects that the service team executes. The quality of the service team directly impacts the customer experience team and so on.

The IT department has an even greater tie to the success and hardships of departments throughout the organization. Many departments would be completely disabled without the network and computer systems supported by IT. Therefore, any changes to the IT environment are sure to ripple out to the widest reaches of the company.

In that same vein, different applications in the environment share a similar relationship. Applications can be integrated, closely tied together, or even dependent on each other to function properly.

Mindsight is cognizant of these interdependent relationships and we approach each client environment with them in mind. When crafting a solution to meet the client’s goals, Mindsight assesses the impact, good or bad, that each solution would create within dependent departments and other applications.
