Cisco Umbrella

OpenDNS

It’s difficult to keep track of all the web activity from your employees. They could be cumulatively going to hundreds or thousands of different websites all at the same time as part of their daily activities. During their exploration of the internet, these employees could be unwittingly brining in malicious threats to the network. Furthermore, all manner of phishing schemes are designed to trick people into clicking unwanted links and triggering a virus. Cisco Umbrella can put a stop to these threats by merging with your DNS system and preventing traffic to these domains before the user reaches them.

By modifying your active directory to use Cisco Umbrella as the DNS regulator, you gain access to Cisco’s expansive directory of safe, suspicious, and malicious domains. If a user tries to access one of these domains, Umbrella interferes and prevents the connection.

Wielding the DNS as a Security Appliance

  • Prevent Command and Control Attacks: Some cyber threats are straight forward. A malicious file tries to enter your environment and cause havoc. Command and control attacks, however, begin more subtly. They appear like normal files before later becoming awakened. These threats then reach out and download the malicious content onto your network from the inside. Cisco Umbrella prevents these threats where firewalls would not, because the Command and Control attack still needs to reach out through the DNS system to download files where it will be stopped by Umbrella.
  • Prevent Phishing Attacks: If a user is tricked into clicking a link that leads to a malicious domain, Cisco Umbrella will prevent the connection and stop the download of any harmful files.
  • Cloud-Hosted: Cisco Umbrella exists in the cloud and requires no hardware on-premise to work effectively. Simply access Cisco Umbrella features through a normal internet connection.
  • Support for Remote Workers: Because it exists in the cloud, Cisco Umbrella can also support your mobile workforce. Smartphones, tablets, and more can be protected wherever they may be.
