May 4, 2018
In 2018 in the U.S., there will be an estimated 1,735,350 new cancer cases and 609,640 cancer deaths. That comes out to one death every minute. In the state of Illinois, there will be an estimated 66,330 new cancer cases and 24,670 cancer deaths.
Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay For Life is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in thousands of communities and 27 countries. Each year, more than 4 million people take part in this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. The money raised through Relay For Life events helps realize the American Cancer Society’s mission to save lives, celebrate life, and lead the fight for a world without cancer. Donations are used to fund life-saving cancer research, patient support services, prevention and education information, and detection and treatment programs.
Relay For Life Joliet
Mindsight is joining forces with one of our clients, DuPage Medical Group, in the fight against cancer in our surrounding communities and country. DuPage Medical Group will be a presenting sponsor at the Relay For Life Joliet. Mindsight is a Hope sponsor. The event will take place Saturday, June 2 from 12pm to 12am at the ATI Field Joliet Memorial Stadium. Event-day activities consist of an opening ceremony, survivor/caregiver walk, luminaria ceremony, and closing ceremony. In addition, there will be games, theme laps, team fundraisers, food, music and more!
Why Mindsight Relays
With one in three people expected to experience cancer in their lifetime, it is likely we all know someone who has been affected by the disease — friends, loved ones, maybe even yourself. Mindsight Account Executive, Eric Christensen, shared this reason for participating:
“I recently lost my mother to Pancreatic Cancer on December 30, 2017. My mom died at the age of 76 leaving behind her twin 7 year-old grandchildren, two daughters, loving husband, daughter-in-law and me. We all miss her tremendously and feel she was too young to be missing from our family, not because of her age, but because of the person she was prior to being ravaged by cancer only a short 10 months earlier. Prior to contracting cancer, she was a vivacious individual, unbelievable mother and friend, amazing wife and truly inspirational person. Previously to my mother, we lost my Aunt/Godmother to Breast Cancer, as well as many other family members to various types of cancer. The gaping hole in my heart that I have, I wish upon nobody and, unfortunately, my story is the same as many other families. The more we fight the more precious lives we can try to save together. The way we fight is by raising money. Because cancer has affected so many people I know and love, it’s inspired me to join Relay For Life.”
Mindsight is participating in this year’s Relay For Life Joliet to help the American Cancer Society change all that. Along with Eric, Mindsight has assembled a team of employees, their families and friends, to participate in Relay. Mindsight’s goal is to raise $5,000 for the American Cancer Society. Our team will be hosting an onsite fundraiser to raise additional money for ACS. If you plan to attend the Relay For Life Joliet, please be sure to stop by the Mindsight tent. We will be selling baked goods, cookies, brownies, and other delicious assortments. We will be raffling off a Momentum iNeed Street bike (a $420 value) from Kozy’s Cyclery Chicago and a $50 gift card to Redstone American Grill in Oakbrook Terrace. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase- one for $5 and three for $10. Winner need not be present to win. If you make an online donation, we will automatically enter your name in the raffle for a chance to win.

Want to Get Involved?
Already the American Cancer Society has made remarkable progress against the disease, and I hope you will consider supporting Mindsight this year as we participate in the Relay for Life Joliet. You can be a part of a cause that will help so many people touched by cancer. Together, we can make an impact.
If you would like join Mindsight in our efforts by contributing an item to raffle during our onsite fundraiser, please contact Mindsight’s Team Captain, Justine Kope, at jkope@gomindsight.com. The dollars we raise for the Relay For Life event allows the American Cancer Society to provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, educate people about how to reduce their risk for cancer or detect it early when it is the easiest to treat, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.
